Indian Head Massage is based on the ancient Ayurvedic healing system using the upper Chakras and has been practiced in India for thousands of years. Head Massage not only proves an invaluable treatment, it also helps relieve stress related problems including: headaches, eyestrain and neck and shoulder stiffness. The head more than any other part of our body represents who we are. It is the centre of our nervous system, and home to our identity and intelligence.
Explanation and Approach
The Chakra at the top of our head (Crown Chakra) is the one we use to communicate with our higher self. If our head feels good, we feel good. An Indian Head Massage is used to help clear blocks in energy channels. The belief is when the energy does not flow properly, negative energy builds up, causing common ailments, including stress, pain, baldness or hair loss. Indian head massage was first brought to the west by Narendra Mehta in the 1970s.
The skull is covered with a thin layer of muscle which tightens when we are feeling tense, resulting in a headache and/or feelings of anxiety. By relaxing the muscles, a head
massage can improve blood flow, alleviate anxiety and relax your whole body. There are energy centres in the region of the shoulders, upper back, neck, upper arms and
face, the treatment of which can benefit the whole body. A combination of rhythmic strokes will soothe and rebalance the energy flow, creating feelings of ease and peace.
In addition this massage reduces stress levels, improves skin tone, increases alertness, stimulates the mind, improves sleep strengthens hair, eliminates toxins and is psychologically uplifting.
